Friends of Hunting Island

Volunteers and Membership

We are over 700 members and growing!

New Friends volunteers are always welcome. The ongoing programs at Hunting Island reach out to people with an interest in nature, the environment, and conservation.

Membership does indeed have its privileges. Where else can you see a barrier island deer gazing warily at you, and sometimes escorting you, as you patrol the beach early in the morning? Where else can you see starfish and blue crabs in the surf and dolphins at play as the sun rises over the ocean?

Members have a responsibility to help improve Hunting Island and an obligation to preserve the island's natural beauty. Opportunities to lend a hand exist in our construction projects, litter patrols, environmental efforts, turtle rescue program, education at the lighthouse and visitor center, and in other events, ways, and means which enhance our ability to make the Park an awesome experience for all.

Benefits come along with your modest annual Friends dues. We issue a vehicle pass to allow you to come out to join us as we work. Fun times throughout the year include fall and spring dinners, picnics, oyster roasts, Frogmore stew parties, pig roasts, and more.

Hunting Island State Park is truly unique. To be a member of the Friends is something special.
